Canvas: A LMS Primer

This orientation is hosted in Canvas, our college-supported learning management system. Whether you are teaching face-to-face, blended, or online, Canvas is a platform to host all of your course-related materials and communication. Here, your students will find your syllabus, access course readings, presentations, and activities. They view and submit assignments and assessments and can communicate with you and classmates (e.g., inbox, discussion board posts, and collaborations).

The Beginner level guides a new Canvas user through the basics needed to set up your account, organize your course, create assignments, activities, and assessments, and grade student work.
The Intermediate level focuses on best practices for designing blended and online courses, finding digital content, promoting student engagement, and creating a visually interesting interface.
The Advanced level connects you to colleagues and encourages conversations about best practices.

Video Creation Basics

Kaltura is a video streaming service that integrates with Canvas that allows you to create, store, organize and share media with your classes. This can all be done without the use of 3rd party video editing software. Visit the Kaltura Getting Started Guide in the Office of Instructional Design's Knowledge Base for instructions for downloading and using Kaltura for creating and sharing videos.

Basics

All College employees and students have professional Zoom accounts. Log in using single sign-on at TCNJ.zoom.us. Review this documentation for instructions on adding Zoom to your Canvas course and the basics of getting started. There are additional resources available in the Canvas Pathway trainings (if you don't have access, sign up.)
